The other foundational competency, courageous authenticity, has to do with a leader’s willingness to bring up highly charged or even taboo topics for discussion without lobbing the proverbial hand grenade onto the conference room table. Leaders who can create space for respectful discussion of challenging and dangerous issues are often seen as innovators and trailblazers. These are the conversations that can clear away the obstacles that inhibit progress. Courageous authenticity also includes the ability to take tough stands and share personal feelings about a situation. It is in many ways a measure of courage with emotionally charged material.
